How This Image Converter Works

This browser-based image conversion tool allows you to upload images and instantly convert them to grayscale. The application uses GPU acceleration through WebGL to process image pixels quickly and efficiently. Each uploaded image is rendered on a canvas element and processed directly inside your web browser.

Once an image is loaded, a shader program converts the color image into grayscale using a standard luminance formula. This process calculates brightness using weighted red, green, and blue values to produce a balanced grayscale image.

After processing, the tool allows you to export your images into multiple popular file formats such as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or AVIF. You can choose which formats you want using the format selection panel. When you click download, the tool generates the files locally and bundles them into a ZIP archive for convenient downloading.
